The automobile insurance industry insiders have suggested that with the onset of fall, the number of insurance claims may go up substantially. According to analysts, past data indicates that more drivers file insurance claims after the month of October. The trend has remained consistent for the past three years and some experts are apprehensive that the situation may aggravate this fall.

About one tenth of all the auto insurance claims are filed in the month of October. As the days get shorter, more motorists tend to get involved in accidents. Throughout the year, US drivers are used to driving in busy traffic with the sun still up. The sunrise and sunset time during the month of October, causes drivers to be distracted by glare caused by sunshine, thus increasing the number of accidents in the month.

The insurance companies further say that they are getting ready for the last three months of 2009. About 30% of all the insurance claims are filed during the last three months of the year. Insurance companies’ officials explain that colder weather forms a lethal combination with hazardous conditions on the road. Safety experts are advising drivers to drive with caution since vehicles tend to lose control due to changing weather conditions. The drivers are also suggested to practice defensive driving and wear protective eyewear. They can also wear sun glasses to avoid glare from the sun.

Policy holders located in the country side may run into problems with animals, as fall is also mating season of deer and other similar animals. Since the nights are getting longer, those driving on highways face higher risk. It becomes difficult for cars and other automobiles to gain traction as the road conditions become slippery. These problems may be solved by using snow chains. The insurance industry analysts say that avoiding accidents and automobile insurance claims is important to avoid paying higher premiums later on.
